Vintage Holly Art Print

“The holly and the ivy, when they are both full grown, Of all the trees that are in the wood, the holly bears the crown.”  -- Traditional English folk song

Around 200 B.C.E. the Druids of northern Europe used Holly as a reminder of spring and the renewal of life. The Romans, who liked to throw wild parties, offered Holly to Saturn for good luck.  Although rooted in pagan ritual, the Holly was adopted by early Christians to avoid persecution as well as to drive away evil spirits.

Today, the Holly symbolizes peace and joy - and a wild part or two.
